Captain Imran Khan was out even after scoring a century! Nawaz Bilal’s coalition is back in power in Pakistan
Pakistan Election 2024
Imran Khan’s government collapsed in 2022 after losing its majority in the National Assembly. After that Bilal Bhutto Zardari brother of PMLN leader Nawaz Sharif became Prime Minister with the support of PPP.
The official announcement phase of counting of votes has not started yet. But before that Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz Sharif (PMLN) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) announced to join hands together. Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and former foreign minister Bilal Bhutto Zardari’s party could form an absolute majority in the lower house of the Pakistani parliament, the National Assembly, to ally.
Before counting of votes on Friday night, Bilal’s father, former Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, and Nawaz Sharif sat in a meeting. The two parties announced on Friday night that the two parties will officially join forces after the counting of votes on Saturday. The total number of seats in the Pak National Assembly is 336 so far. But out of 336 constituencies, 266 constituencies were supposed to go to direct polls. However, due to the sudden death of an unlucky candidate, 265 constituencies were polled. The remaining 70 seats were for women and religious minorities. Of the 70 seats, 60 were for women and 10 for minorities. According to the Constitution of Pakistan, the parties that win the reserved seats will decide the representation in the reserved seats according to the proportion of the seats.
But government formation is not dependent on those reserved seats. Seats reserved out of 265 seats shall be excluded from the calculation. If the winning number of 133 is supported, the magic number of majority in the lower house will be possible in the current scenario. So far PPP has won 53 seats while PMLN has won 71 seats. Former prime minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won 91 seats and independents and others won 35 seats.
That is, the possibility of a majority coalition is going to be complete. It also appears that Nirdal and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam are going to get support from several radical groups. Needless to say, PTI was de-recognized as a political party by the Election Commission of Pakistan directly from the polls. Moreover, many of Imran Khan’s party contested as an independent party. As a result, independents are going to have a majority among the winners in the National Assembly. and Awani National Party of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Muttahida Qaumi Movement of Sindh may have supporters of Imran Khan’s party.
