Kelvin Kiptum died in a road accident at the age of 24
The world record holder who hails from Kenya set the world record at the Chicago Marathon in October 2023 by finishing 42 kilometers in just 2:00:35. He died suddenly along with his coach in a road accident on Sunday 11th February.
His team for the Rotterdam Marathon was announced on 14 April. And he was planning to finish there in 2 hours just before the accident happened.

The tragic news of his death sent shockwaves through the athletics world and tributes were paid to him around the world.
His world record was certified by the World Athletics Committee last week. Kelvin Kiptam is survived by his wife Esenath Rotich and their two children
The record was bested by Eliud Kipchog at the 2022 Berlin Marathon with a time of 2 hours 1 minute 9 seconds. In 2023, that record was broken by Kelvin Kiptam at the Chicago Marathon
